The Taj Mahal
I have been in India for over two weeks. During that time, I’ve consumed very little wine. It’s been rare to see people drinking wine here, unless they’re foreigners in a five-star hotel restaurant. Wine is extremely expensive in India, mostly limited to big brands, and often the result of questionable storage conditions. More common is tea, juice, mocktails, lassis, or the occasional Kingfisher beer. I’ve been promised that we will drink from a coconut, but so far the roadside coconut seller hasn’t materialized (perhaps in Goa, where we’re headed tomorrow).
Girl on wine will return to wine next week. Until then, here’s a story I recently wrote for Urban Expressions, after tasting a range of Mendoza wines with Laura Catena of Bodega Catena Zapata.
